How to Plan and Set Practice Courses for Schooling Hunter, Jumper and Equitation Riders.
Over 100 jump courses, gymnastic exercises, and grids!
“I’ve spent time with the book and find it very correct. Author Susan Tinder did an excellent job putting together a useful collection of courses.”
– George Morris
“Susan Tinder has put together a very thoughtful and thorough manual to help anyone in all aspects of course design. I find the sections designed to help people with their gymnastics and course design for training at home especially helpful—we all find ourselves getting a bit stale with our work at home, and this manual will help us come up with fresh ideas. I love that Ms. Tinder covers all aspects of course design, jump construction, and even storage and maintenance of jumps. I look forward to studying her book in more detail, and putting some of her ideas to use in my own training program."
-Geoff Teall, Trainer, Author, and USEF “R” Hunter and Hunter Equitation Licensed Judge
An entire profession is devoted to designing and building jump courses, but now it can be a little easier to create your own show-quality course at home! This highly illustrated instruction manual explains—with the aid of hundreds of color photos, diagrams, and tables—the jump components used in different horse show divisions, how course designers select the tracks to be followed, and what factors make a course more or less difficult to ride. This book is essential for anyone who wants to better understand the concepts of course design and is a valuable training aid for those looking for inspiration when schooling or teaching riders at home. Includes 52 full course designs, 15 short courses, 35 gymnastic exercise set-ups, and 15 grid lines.
Includes: 10 grids, 22 basic gymnastic courses, 7 advanced gymnastic courses, 30 small arena designs, 16 space-saving configurations, 15 hunter courses, 15 equitation courses, and 15 jumper courses.
Susan Tinder showed Quarter Horses in her early years. She then went on to pursue a 25-year career in accounting and finance before retiring from corporate life and making her way back into the horse world. She purchased what is now Tolland Falls in 2003 and continues to evolve the ranch into one of Colorado's premier equestrian facilities. Tinder currently shows her horses in the Adult Amateur Hunter Division (tollandfalls.com).

Perfect help here. A great companion actually to the Olaf Petersen DVD ( available here at The Horse Studio too) - view one and read the other and you'll be a superb course designer and fully able to bring just what you need to every level of jumping competition and training. This manual is a great production from Trafalgar, with an easy open/lay flat spiral binding and just about every grid, space saver configuration and jumper course you can imagine. Superb.
