The Adult Longeing Guide: Exercises to help build an Independent Seat. 2008 release.

Take your riding to a whole new level. A book specially aimed at the adult rider which will help you build your confidence and your skills. Whether you work Western or English, over fences, on the trail or in the dressage ring or in the foxhunting field, you will embrace this text from Emily Esterson as a great tool to really improve your riding.

With key exercises and a program for every part of your body, you will find the key to unlock your potential as the 'Sally Swift' type approach with clear mental images that you can easily practice become routine to your body, and you begin to access parts you didn't know you could separate and focus on and even more important, truly control. Emily has done a good job here of taking what can easily become a complicated subject on the seat, and giving you a straightforward, down to earth approach that you can easily incorporate into your riding program and feel the difference immediately.

thehorsestudio.com review; I was fortunate to grow up working a lot of these exercises before I was ever allowed off the lead line and there is no question that the basis for a good seat begins with the longe work. At one time an Olympic level coach that I had and that have also been most fortunate to work with, took me back to the longe line and I was able to experience it all over again. Which I thoroughly enjoyed and was pleased not to have forgotten how. And I think that is the blessing of work on the longe. You pick a steady horse to work on and a good friend who can hopefully also learn alongside you reading the book - and as you are not worrying over the horse you will experience these feelings of 'seat' and 'core connection' with the horse through your center, entering the left side of the brain. With my adult riders and any starter rider of any age, I always work at least once a week with longe work. This then translates in your inner being and brings you the most important asset to any rider, the independent seat. It really is a must have, and the work on the longe is not as hard as some folks think. Emily Esterson brings good imagery, which I know riders find specially helpful in the learning process, and even after you have been riding for years you will find returning the longe a great help in resolving bad habits you may have accumulated. Well written and succinctly put, an easy to assimilate progression in a book that is well overdue.
