BodySense: How to revolutionize your riding with the Alexander Technique. Author Sally A. Tottle

TheHorseStudio.com review: Udo Burger once wrote that "The impression of harmony is much more important than the intricacy of steps and figures." He was a world renowned horse trainer and fully qualified vet who in his era constantly investigated the biomechanical workings of the horse and aimed to improve the rider's training of the horse by better understanding them.

Whether you are new to riding or have been riding many years, as I have, and find that the matter of gravity training young horses has at times caused some unexpected events that resulted in physical damage to oneself, you are probably aware that how you sit and move on a horse may be adversely affected by that number one culprit, yourself. The Alexander technique that is fully disclosed in this book, guides the rider through breathing, posture, balance, muscle tone and more, that results in harmony in your riding.

As Udo Burger suggests ( see his book The Way to Horsemanship here at TheHorseStudio.com, a classic), when we understand muscles and how they work, when we make our eyes soft and expel air efficiently as a dancer will do, then we are in sync with our monitor, the horse. Thoroughly worth investigation, this book facilitates some simple and not so simple adjustments that any rider can make to improve their feeling and seat.

The result may be that you proceed quicker in learning your way on the horse, and that you see immediate improvements that include aches and stiffnesses literally disappearing. And if they disappear in you, in my experience it's likely they will also disappear in your horse. Recommended reading. Also suggest the book The Rider's Back, for those who have suffered injuries requiring some help.
