Clinton Anderson's Downunder Horsemanship
990437
Establishing Respect and Control for English and Western Riders. One of the great things about Clinton - aside from that winning smile - is his ability to communicate with the rider as well as the horse. His weekly broadcast show - is one of the most popular on satellite TV and for good reason.

His approach is to work real horses that are untrained on real problems that the everyday rider faces. Every horse is not well trained and every rider is not either - but Clinton shows us all ways to improve our understanding of the horse and our ability armed with that info to move on into truly productive training. Beginning through ground work including of course lunging and working to simple in the saddle exercises - Clinton has laid out his very good advice in a systematic and logical way.

There are some great photos for each exercise - a list of which tools you need tack wise - your overall goal with the exercise and the answer to why you should do it. He engages in answering questions not just about how to do the exercise but how to handle the situation if things go wrong - common handler and horse problems here too - everything is personally worked and commented on here as they progress through the process with their own individual horses and problems - in a lovely journal - which is an inspiration for us all. One rider bringing the Western horse along - the other an English dressage horse .

I have to admit I was a little surprised by this book. I am not sure exactly what I expected but I was enthralled with the succinct advice and applaud the very specific and clear instructions. I can see why Clinton is so revered. Totally practical and very honest and the two gals Paula Horsch and Cecilia Trabert were very good at communicating their thoughts on the entire process as each exercise was completed. The book layout is very good and the advice very straightforward and easy to follow and master. originally from Australia Clinton has worked with many of the most noted trainers there including Gordon McKinlay and Ian Francis. he apprenticed in the USA with Al Dunning AQHA World Champion multiple winner and has put to great use his experience and training techniques. He headlines many clinics and prestigious events around the equine world.

Recommended reading. Excellent coverage of work on the ground and in the saddle.
