Polocrosse Australia Made Internationally Played Horse Polo
990422

Published in Australia ( where else) this is a tome of great information on the game of Polocrosse and how to play it successfully. Author Sally Batton Boillotat has done an awesome job with this book. Though I've never played it - I've witnessed all the action firsthand at matches in England and it's super fast paced, requiring tremendous stamina and accuracy and very exciting to watch. I can only imagine the horse power you need to play it. This book is a great resource for the Polocrosse player or someone considering joining the sport. A thorough history of the sport, how it is so incredibly popular is no surprise - internationally played. You can find all the information you need here on clothing and equipment, ball handling, tactics, The Australian Carnival, the Polocrosse Player, Player profiles, how to train the Polocrosse horse. The Horse and Rider Polocrosse team, and veterinary care. There is also a great international directory that gives you more resources if you need them. The photography throughout is very high quality and the player profiles from Michael Polya to the Matthews family honest and interesting accounts. Apparently it is a surprisingly quick game to learn and there is lots of very professional advice from such folks as breeder Graeme Spackman on his training routines and methods. One of my favorite photos is of bringing the horses in from the paddock - a classic photo - wide expanse of open ground and the horses walking free with their trainer walking merrily along with the dog, enjoying a cigarette with no worries that the horses aren't coming along with him despite no halters or lead ropes or buckets of grain incentives. The training diary was particularly great fun to read and for anyone that has played polocrosse or polo - the vet section which addressed the acute physical stress signs to be wary of and how to deal with them is well received. Such an intense sport - keeping your mount safe is naturally paramount - and I learned some valuable advice reading this section. The family aspect of Polocrosse is also much appreciated - the Junior Leagues are a great way for our youngsters to get involved, and the excitement of the sport soon has them hooked.

Recommended.
