Classical training here for both flatwork and jumping for Art on Horseback. this updated revered classic work from Wilhelm Museler, has color photos of today's rider and the text as ever provides strong foundation logic for the rider in any discipline. Known widely in Germany as simply 'The Museler' this work has been republished many times and is ever present in the library of many riders.

From learning how to sit and engage independent aids, how to learn 'feel' as a rider, to schooling the horse with regard to his nature and backing, to how to tell if your horse is totally involved and accepting of the aids. Special consideration given for retraining the aids in a badly schooled horse as well as a young horse or one without knowledge. Chapters on handling all the various disobediences like bucking or shying are covered, plus help all the way through the training scale. After riding skills are enhanced in the arena, jumping and how to recover and prevent mistakes are detailed, with some super photos. Plus a special section on hunting. Finally the equipment for the horse and rider and the items used in schooling.

Wilhelm Museler was a highly respected and well known rider and trainer in Berlin, Germany in the 1930's. His first book published in 1933 followed the principles of German cavalry school and the manual 1912, Principles of Riding and Driving. Classicist international superstars such as Ingrid Klimke and Klaus Balkenhol, note in the foreword their interaction with the principles of Museler, and the great master Dr. Reiner Klimke included Museler's logic in his training methods, as his daughter attests. Whether you want to know how to handle such events as ' pressing against the wall,' a school horse evasion, or how to strike off correctly to canter, or how to approach a jump correctly, it's all here and much more. Enjoy photos of Dr. Ulf Moller, Debbie McDonald, Nadine Cappelmann, Christian Ullman, Ludger Beerbaum to name but a few.

thehorsestudio.com review: I read this book many years ago and this updated version with the super photos really lends a beautiful finish to the good work. Succinct but still in depth advice here on all the do's and don'ts, the text is easy to follow and the section on the correct seat and the right 'feel' is very helpful for any rider. Interesting to learn when to deliberately overflex the horse in training and what the original intent of that exercise was - and where the flexion and use of the back of the horse is protected in the classical basis of art in dressage. A very good book and a great resource. Highly recommended.
