The Spur: David Stoecklein. It's history, art and culture and function from a celebrated photographer.

TheHorseStudio.com review: The craftsmanship and designs of this huge variety of spurs is impressive. The development of the spur from Mexico into Texas, and ultimately it's special refinement in California tells a story of the different life the Texas Cowboy experienced to that of his Californian counterpart.

Perhaps the kinder weather of California did give the cowboys there more time to train their horses and thus they needed less metal and more refinement to their spurs, as David suggests in this well written book or perhaps their gold gave them the financial opportunity to create highly collectible works of art. The Texans by comparison suffering less trained horses and tougher terrain, required a heavier and more robust design. In all this book cleverly details the amazing variety of spurs that have been made and the photography is exceptional. Very interesting read and would make a great gift. David certainly fulfills his goal of keeping the spirit of the West alive with this book, part of his Cowboy Gear series. Please see his other books available right here at TheHorseStudio.com.
