The baroque series is a very good set of info for any dressage rider and also any rider seeking to improve the basic work on the flat. There is such tremendous history explained here as well as some truly lovely cinematography that makes you just want to get out and ride, but above all the advice from the grandson of Oliveriera and the expertise of Brenderup, Heinrich and Kottas shows you that classical riding is very much attainable and alive.

The French and Iberian schools are so well documented here that it is straightforward to go straight to your arena and begin a new and rich chapter with your horse. The Horse Studio Team reviewed these DVD's and everyone though them to be one of the most comprehensive and helpful that they'd seen ever. So don't miss out :)

Part 1. Take your very own lesson here with Bent Branderup, Goncalo Oliveira, and Arthur Kottas-Heldenberg. The baroque horse is discussed in history as well as present day, and the three ecuyers begin you on the journey of working with your horse on the ground. and in the saddle, working on the longe line. Different approaches are used by each trainer and the tack used is also differently applied. Yet all follow classical principles and their credentials are impeccable.

thehorsestudio.com review; this DVD provides you with the foundation and understanding of basic dressage principles and training methods from these great trainers. Working the young horse in the classical school yet each trainer brings their own definitive presence to the task and it is very interesting to see the different approaches. This is Part 1 of a great series. I recommend buying at least Part 1 and 2 together as they build one on the other if you are beginning work with a young horse. The horse scenery is inspiring.

Brent Branderup has himself trained with such notables as Egon von Neindorff and and Nuno Oliveira, and as a talented ecuyer he demonstrates the starting of the young horse, on the longe, starting under saddle and basic work following the French School. Nuno Oliveira's grandson Goncalo, shows the Iberian approach to the same work, which is slightly different. Arthur Kottas ( Spanish Riding School Director) details the ongoing work through medium levels ( 3rd/4th levels). The DVD shows how to create a positive interaction between horse and rider. A benefit to all horses in any discipline, but especially for those horses on their way to haute ecole. Some lovely photography and inspiring images. Recommended Approx 80 mins duration and jam packed with info. Note: There are 6 DVD's in this series.

Part 2. Training and Riding the Baroque Horse. Dancing Stallions: On The Way to Perfection. This DVD showcases baroque stallions. This DVD builds a more detailed picture of the work of all the masters listed below and focuses on working the horses in the lateral movements especially, from the ground as well as from the saddle in true Iberian/baroque style.

thehorsestudio.com review; The masters ride different level stallions to demonstrate their training methods and Brigitte does a good job of explaining why stallions are used and how the classical baroque approach fits in to how we've arrived at dressage competition today. The advice is well presented, and the horse' scenery' is wonderful. Movements of Haute Ecole are demonstrated as the stallions build to that level.

If you are having trouble getting motivated to get up there or out there and work with your horse, this DVD will def. motivate you. The work looks so effortless and the horses undestand their job. A wealth of info and great camerawork provide a hands on approach that is detailed and very useful. Not to mention a joy to behold. Part 3. This DVD is 70 minutes of great advice and demonstrations of the horse training with the different masters listed below ( all of which are very different in their approach). Specifically this DVD focuses on Riding as an Art, Haute Ecole, Rejoneo, and Baroque Horses in Competition.

thehorsestudio.com review; The work on the capriole by Bert Brenderup and the Spanish team at the end of the DVD is awesome. The work by Brenderup gives you a history lesson on Guerinere, Pluvenal and is very educational. There is also info on the 'mountain riding' which is basically walk and canter, for working Spanish bulls including how it came into bullfighting training. There are demonstrations and advice on Spanish walk, Spanish trot, cantering backwards ( yes, really) and which order to train the piaffe in regard to these other methods of haute ecole.

The horse that Brenderup shows in Haute Ecole, a royal Danish breed that he is partly responsible for recovering, is an awesome demonstration. Oliveria demonstrates all the dynamics according to the Iberian principles, and Kottas demonstrates using British student Andrew Murphy on his Lusitano stallion. There is a lot to see and learn here. Arthur Kottas (Spanish Riding School Director) details the ongoing work through medium levels (3rd/4th levels) and through to Haute Ecole. Brigitte explains how this work differs from competition dressage as we know it today and the efforts that are being made to offer a freestyle competition for those riders who wish to show the horse off but do not wish to compete in the traditional arena. Footage of baroque competition is included. The DVD shows how to create a positive interaction between horse and rider.

Part 4. The previous DVD in this series explained well how the baroque training fits in historically and this DVD builds your knowledge through a detailed demonstration of renaissance riding and training. Fascinating and educational.

This specific training is demonstrated by Christin and Wolfgang Kirschke who provide "The Living Horse Museum" which is their study of art of horse riding during the 15th to 17th centuries. There are demonstrations of them training, their spectacular exhibitions, and the inclusion of the lost and perhaps forgotten arts of Falkade, Mezair, Passade and mounted passages at arms. A real education that brings a lot of history of the horse in a very enjoyable and understandable format.

This DVD is 45 minutes long. Some lovely photography and inspiring images.

Part 5. Training and Riding the Baroque Horse Side Saddle. This DVD is part 5 of 6 in The Baroque Horse Series. This DVD is 50 minutes of great advice and demonstrations of the horse training.
