Part 1. Longe Work, Side Reins, Prussian Reins.

In this DVD he brings you to his home just outside of Lisbon, and among the Portuguese blue tiled nameplated stalls introduces you to some of his 'statesmen' horses, while he reviews the history of the Iberian breeds. He shares his knowledge of the classical art of dressage training. This DVD covers his thoughts on the Iberian horse. Work on the longe, fundamentals of classical Portuguese equitation. And the basics of communication with the horse.

Luis gives insight into the psyche of the horse and demonstrates his training system. Luis shows you how he starts the young horse on the longe line, (one rein before the other for eg.) and shows in detail the tack used and it's exact positioning and the reasoning behind it all. The horse is longed with side reins and then the Prussian rein. His voice commands are explained and he gives a good basic intro for the trainer, with some interesting differences on side rein lengths from that you might have read in other schools. This DVD covers Work in hand: Airs above the ground- haute Ecole exercises between the pillars, long reining and the Spanish Walk. Luis Valenca now has his own stable near Lisbon and he trains riders from around the world.
