This crazy mixed up family headed by Lloyd Bourdelle (Walter Matthau) finds themselves on board with an unexpected quarterhorse they believe will win millions. The story is touching and funny and acted in true Walter style

The story begins with impoverished trainer Lloyd Bourdelle who shares his world with three sons. One of whom he sends on a quest to purchase a quarterhorse. The son returns with an old pregnant mare explaining that the mare has great bloodlines. The mare gives birth to a promising racing colt who Lloyd and the band decide to train for the track to try and win some money and show his old rivals just how to do it. But just as the horse is about to enter a million dollar race he injures his front leg. In spite of the vet warning and his son's violent objections Bourdelle enters the horse anyway. A bittersweet and poignant conclusion is sure to make Casey's Shadow a family favorite.
