TheHorseStudio.com review. Some moving scenes from stellar actor John Hurt here. Add his dynamic larger than life personality, this movie grips the viewer from the start. The surrounding cast, also stellar, with Edward Woodward, Alison Steadman and Jan Francis brings us all to life. When Bob Champion (Hurt), is diagnosed with lung cancer he is determined to overcome the disease to return to the sport of kings. But then his horse suffers a torn tendon and is not expected to race again. The ups and downs of trying to put a winning race together are aptly told in this tale and the story is truly of the power of courage and the will to win. The fact it is based on a true story make the message all the more poignant. Very enjoyable and well acted movie directed by John Irvin.
