Equi-Stretch Workout for the Rider Level One Strengthening and Stretching Techniques for the Rider from professional movement instructor Dan Weltner.

Learn how to target and develop the key muscular areas you use as an equestrian during this 35 minute workout. Dan Weltner demonstrates how to work to strengthen upper body and postural muscles, how to learn pelvic isolation, how to develop a greater range of motion, gain stability in the legs, build stronger abdominal muscles and increase overall body awareness.

TheHorseStudio.com review: This workout is a smart system which provides not just a very specific routine that will aid you in your body awareness and strength for riding, but I can see a benefit for other sports too. The length of the program is perfect, because most of us can find 35 minutes to work out each day and there is an additional 5 minute pre-riding warm up which I am sure the rider will appreciate and most certainly the horse will when you mount up. Fun and effective.

The work is easy to achieve and uncomplicated but it does work very keenly the major muscle areas we use when riding. After many years of persistent work on the longe line to develop an independent seat, I can attest that these are the areas you need to focus on and that developing them this way would certainly be preferable to too much time on the longe, where the body just overtires. The plan here from Dan Weltner is obviously borne from his expertise as a world renowned professional dancer who truly understands the biomechanics of the body. His awareness of the need for increased flexibility and how to achieve it successfully and without injury evidences his dance experience and his Pilates certification. His sister Kristi Weltner Redd who has ridden and trained horses for over 30 years provides the initiative for his sojourn into the 'thinking rider' and how to develop yourself with the same attention you give to develop the horse. It is after all a partnership - so I guess it's only fair we put our effort in too. I found this workout intelligently planned and easy to complete. The work is suitable for beginner through advanced riders, and anyone returning to the sport after a hiatus will certainly appreciate this neat package approach. Will certainly be looking forward to working up to Level two.

Equi-Stretch Workout for the Rider Level Two Strengthening and Stretching Techniques for the Rider from professional movement instructor Dan Weltner.

TheHorseStudio.com review: This routine is designed to build over volume 1 and the aim here is to further develop your core strength and to use your core strength to lengthen your torso. Working in key areas of neutral alignment and training you how to create effective opposition that does not hinder your horse's movement or damage your body, Dan delves into the internal rotation necessary to advance to the next level. The goal of refining your position is addressed and the benefit of this routine will be apparent to both you and your horse after a few weeks. The advancement in riding comfort and effectiveness unlocks the areas of weakness and even pain and will produce better progress. Your enhanced abilities will provide a clear signal that releases aids confidently and accurately. I found that as I worked the system over several months I gained even more benefits than I had hoped. My balance was improved and my fluidity of movement became cleaner and created a better visual impression as well as my young horse responding in kind which was awesome. My aids seem to become unblocked and I gained a better overall physique. Naturally with all this came more confidence. Before long I was on a positive rotation that seems to keep improving. My left hip which suffers arthritis after a surgical table hiccup years ago is much improved as is the range of motion. All the extra muscles to support it and my better back alignment perhaps? Not sure but really happy it's improved. My slightly stiff neck also is better and and I don't find I hold the same tension throughout my body when I ride. Some of which I wasn't aware was even there, until now it has gone. I highly recommend this plan. It's clear, it's easy and it only takes 40 minutes. Dan also includes a 5 minute pre ride warm up.

Equi-Stretch Seated Workout A non impact stationery fitness workout for both rider and non riders that you can do at home in 20 minutes. A great introductory routine or cross training device from professional movement instructor Dan Weltner. We call this Volume 3.

TheHorseStudio.com review: A super adjunct for those days when you want to work on a non impact basis this also would yield great results as an introduction to the volumes 1 and 2. This stationery workout provides a quick tune up for toning the upper body, improving coordination, stabilizing core muscles and challenging postural endurance. While you learn how to engage the all important mind and body connection Dan is guiding you deftly through a routine that will yield better body control and flexibility as you learn what is where and what effects what in the muscle groups. I have not completed the volume 1 or 2 riders workouts though hear from my The Horse Studio Team mates that it is really good. Apparently those routines really enhance your flexibility! This seated workout was not high energy but was surprisingly helpful nonetheless. Not sure what I expected but after three weeks of doing just this 20 minute session I found I was much better at not just my riding but also my kayaking and ballroom dancing. While I am not headed to So You Think You Can Dance Or the Equestrian Olympics ( if there are any??) I am certainly feeling better. I feel more energy and my mental spirits seem lifted. I do it in my college dorm room three times a week and it really picks me up. Weird but there you are. Have to say I would go for it with this DVD and am planning on checking out the horse riding Volume 1 and 2 too.
