The story of the breed and an extensive visit with breeders in Iceland. This is an impressive film which provides the viewer with a great insight into the fascinating Icelandic breed of horses. Their home, their past and present and the renaissance of the breed that is now enjoyed all over the world, are well covered with lots of good cinematography. The fascinating and comfy gaits, and the freshness of this breed is fun to watch.

This film provides extensive information and super coverage of all the different lines of the Icelandic breed by region in their native land. The history of the breed, including how the side of the road now driven was changed from right to left side ( as in England) due to the ladies riding side saddle finding themselves hitting into each other otherwise, is well covered and illustrated. The moving of the horses to summer mountain pastures, the shows and the herding of the sheep, the intertwining of fish farming and sheep farming together with horses - lots of info here.

The gaits of the four and five gaited horses are explained, the breeders farms are viewed and breeders interviewed. Lots of amusing anecdotes, Icelandic culture past and present. I recall watching the elite of British showjumpers like Harvey Smith and David Broome, The Irish Eddie Macken and many more, competing on these horses at The Horse Of The Year Show in Britain. Remarks of the most comfortable horse I've ever ridden and hoots of laughter from all as this superb Nordic breed performed beautifully their task for the event. A lovely DVD to sit and enjoy again and again. Recommended.
