In The Stable Fun look at horse care for the student rider or neophyte horse owner.

Everything you need to learn about basic horse care is right here. Beginning with stall care Heather Morris and her student will direct you though how to clean a stall thoroughly. Included is a discussion on the types of bedding and how to use them, how to sanitize the stall and the tools that you need for the job. Join guest farrier Joanathan Myers as he talks with Heather explaining tools used, the importance of regular visits. He shows how a hoof is trimmed, describes the parts of the equine foot, and nails a shoe. Also a discussion of some basic corrective shoeing techniques and why and how they may be used. The importance of nutrition is then covered in clear terms. Types of hay, how to tell what hay is good or bad, types of grain and proper storage and signs of mould or age on both products. The different types of grain are discussed and also Heather shows you the importance of measuring grain by weight and not volume. The last segment is the all important question answered, " When should I call the vet?" Veterinary surgeon Travis Blackwelder walks Heather and her students through common ailments and what to do to treat them. Also Travis details the symptoms and signs of life threatening conditions that require immediate treatment by the vet. First aid that you can learn yourself for common types of injuries are included. You will learn the important lessons of how to take a horse's pulse, temperature, bandage a leg injury and more.

TheHorseStudio.com review: This is a very user friendly sensible approach that defines the important issues facing the new horse owner. This DVD would be beneficial for the 4H or pony clubber or first time adult owner. The format using students with Heather Morris learning the routines and details is clever, and the student won't feel intimidated by learning these seemingly basics. Having said that there were a couple of points I picked up from it , which goes to show that after forty years working with horses there is always more to learn! A neat production that is well appreciated by the trainer seeking a medium that is easily accessible and educational.

NTSC North America/Canada This is a four segment DVD and is series 2. ( Series 1 is not available on DVD yet & we do not carry VHS)
