Philippe Karl is a renowned ecuyer with a history in the Cadre Noir de Saumur - and brings a fresh and lively pace to the advice. Following the lightness in the hand methods of the French School, this series is a serious set of advice that moves quickly along and is very comprehensive. Part 1 of a 4 part series, designed to stand alone or you can find the rest of the set in our listings. Philippe Karl of the Cadre Noir brings here his philosophy of ease, this title The School Of Dance (Karl is from the French school in Saumur). This DVD covers the basics including longe work, in hand basics, the application of aids, starting work under the rider and some lateral basic work. All of the Philippe Karl DVD's are jam packed with info and very good value for money.

This area of Provence, France, is the opening beautiful cinematography here, and riding a dream of a horse in a romantic land is just the beginning. Perhaps it's Philippe's super French accent or the aplomb with which he directs his horse - whatever it is - it's quite mesmerizing. There is lots of serious information here tho too - no hold barred - all knowledge generously shared and very explicit help.

The entire Horse Studio team really enjoyed this whole series and many of us have taken to heart many of the lesson Philippe has share here. A really good DVD that won't disappoint.

Part 2 of a 4 part series, designed to stand alone or you can find the rest of the set in our store. It is however beneficial to have started with DVD 1, which does show the snaffle work and work without the rider as a good grounding to Philippe's program. Philippe Karl of the Cadre Noir brings here his philosophy of ease, this title The School Of Gymnastics (Karl is from the French school in Saumur) and as usual Philippe brings a lot of info to interest the trainer.

This DVD covers further training post basics including canter work, flying changes, the intro of the double bridle, showjumping and work over jumps on the longe line, combination lateral work and gymnastic exercises. Philippe works his Lusitano stallion in the double bridle, he covers how to hold the reins according to the French School, and fully explains the reasons for these methods. There is some very good info on training the flying changes and full use of the previous lateral exercises is well explained and demonstrated.

Through the jumping portion Philippe has his Oldenburg stallion jumping on the longe line, and later show shis Lusitano jumping under saddle. The lesson in bascule for the horse, to stretch the back and to add to the gymnastic ability of the horse as well as keep the horse fresh are well illustrated, and Philippe works in a quiet and positive manner throughout with soft admonishments when needed. His perfect French accent is easy to listen to, adding an additional romantic air to the DVD. There are some very interesting 'Baucher' points and theories demonstrated here, very educational. Recommended. Especially enjoyed the intro work of the canter, and the timing thereof i.e. after lateral trot work under saddle, and the canter departures and leads and gymnastic dressage exercises and their use to enhance the horse in suppleness and understanding are explained well.

This DVD covers the training progress one year later have followed his 'chart' for success inspired by such masters as Gueriniere, Buacher, L'holte and more). This is a lovely film detailing the improvements of the horses seen in Parts 1/2/3 and offers the student of dressage an opportunity to better understand the biomechanics, balance and riding with ease, without force, as well as the psychology that enable the rider to obtain the very best from the horse without stress or misunderstanding.
