TheHorseStudio.com review: Allen Pogue brings his special talents as one of the most innovative trainers of this century to help you work with your foal post imprint training ( see our books and DVD from Dr. Robert Miller on this), to develop your young horse in the best possible way. The exercises are fun but make no mistake, each one carefully guides the horse on a course to learn how to learn. So while you will enjoy playing with your foal and he with you, the logical progression through these simple exercises is gently teaching your horse a work ethic that you can build on later as he matures. I have bred and raised many horses over the years and ardently wish that I had known of Allen's methodology then. We always did the imprint work and I know that helped each one of our young horses, but this follow through with Allen is very creative and logical and I would certainly recommend this program to any horse owner. Enhanced Foal Training II Imagine A Horse with Allen Pogue: Watch this pretty Andalusian filly learn her kindergarten lessons and work around other graduates of the Allen Pogue training program.

TheHorseStudio.com review: This is a real education for both horse and owner. I was delighted by Allen's calm and gentle approach to this beautiful filly in her lessons, and enjoyed watching her learn immensely. The exercises are not stressful on the foal and Allen Pogue truly has brought trick training a long way with the logical sequence in which he works with the horse. It was amazing to see how calm and happy the filly was as she learned to refine her skills from the earlier lessons. The older filly shown here was the one used in the DVD Enhanced Foal Training 1 ( that DVD also available right here at TheHorseStudio.com), and it was interesting to see how she has developed and now aids in the teaching process. As you listen to Allen his peaceful demeanor translates across the screen to yourself and when you step out to the barn and begin working with your own horse you find you are in that same zone. It's actually pretty amazing. The exercises are simple and easy to follow and certainly it develops a stronger bond between horse and human and a format where each can communicate and each side of the partnership is truly listening and learning to listen. Can't wait to see the next one in the series! Definitely recommend!

Horse Trick Training Fundamentals I : Imagine A Horse with Allen Pogue. Detailed instruction that teaches you how to develop your own trick trained horse.

TheHorseStudio.com review: Want to teach your horse to bow? To kneel? Obesiance? These are the basics, the stretches and poses that form the foundation for all future training of your very own circus horse. The horse will learn to be submissive and adaptable through this work and Allen Pogue expertly guides you through a humane and gentle process to achieve them easily. As the horse is moving his eye lower than the handler in these exercises, they are generally considered exercises of submission. That however, is not to say that the horse will develop a non thinking or cowering attitude. The complete opposite results - you see your horse becoming calmer and happier. His mind becomes more inquiring and at the same time he is learning to control his body and develop body awareness. Allen shows you how to prepare the horse both mentally and physically through his own unique system. You will see how this preparation results in the horse being able to accept the discipline required to perform the poses and stretches. Recommended.

TheHorseStudio.com review: If you missed Sheryl Crow and her recent performance, entering the arena on her own Lady C with the help of trainer Sue de Laurentis ( partner to Allen Pogue) to an audience of 50,000 people then you will at least be able to view her very talented mare at work right here with Allen Pogue as part of this DVD that builds more tricks over the foundation of Trick Training Fundamentals I ( available here at TheHorseStudio.com). I thoroughly enjoyed watching Allen work his magic with these horses and the culmination of the lessons with the horses demonstrating their learned tricks at liberty was enthralling. The material here is highly educational and Allen takes you deftly through the process of training the specifics of laying down, sit up and sit down. Increase your horses repertoire of tricks. I have seen many DVDs on trick training over the years, including Bea Borelle and Josh Lyons amongst others offered here at TheHorseStudio.com. While all are very good, I particularly recommend Allen's program of DVDs because it is very detailed and logical. The environment is safe and well described throughout this series, the actions easy to work yourself and Allen's soft voice is very melodic to listen to and his directions easy to follow. Certainly innovative, kind and concise. I can see why Dr. Robert Miller calls his work exceptional. Highly Recommended.

TheHorseStudio.com review: Liberty training is often demonstrated at the Ringling Brothers circus, and the crowd is delighted to watch horses perform. Allen has stepped into this arena himself and his keen observations have facilitated his own development of these exercises as a primary foundation exercise for the horse. Here Allen teaches you how to start working with a solo horse and graduate to working a troupe of horses. Precise execution of patterns requires the horse to think and to work with other horses. Without doubt once these exercises are learned, the horse will be provided with a solid foundation for future development in any aspect of performance. The self discipline required being intense for the horse. Allen encourages the horse to develop his own individuality and mental growth, with lessons beginning as foals in the stall through to round pen work as horses mature. TheHorseStudio.com review: Liberty training working from one to four horses is indeed a serious achievement. Allen Pogue takes you through all the steps necessary to facilitate this remarkable feat. You really do feel like you are being treated to a behind the scenes look at how circus horses are trained, and while Allen has noted special thanks to Sasha Houcke Jr. head trainer for Ringling Brothers circus, for allowing him to observe his training sessions, this DVD is thoroughly Allen Pogue, Imagine A Horse methodology. It is great to see the fruition of his work on this troupe of horses.

Spanish Walk and The Liberty Pole: Imagine A Horse with Allen Pogue. High School work for your horse.

TheHorseStudio.com review: There are many methods that the horse masters of the day have utilized to develop a Spanish Walk, the classical and not so classical dressage methods have been well described ( see the Philippe Karl DVD series for the French school approach or read any of the many classical titles including The Workbook of the Spanish School right here at TheHorseStudio.com).

In this DVD Allen Pogue showcases a beautiful presentation of the majestic Spanish Walk, the cues and directions being taken by the horse in a happy and relaxed manner. The results are impressive. In addition Allen brings an introduction to the Liberty Pole. On visits to that famous institution, The Spanish Riding School in Vienna, I have been privileged to witness Haute Ecole both taught and performed and to have experienced some of these movements from the saddle. Quite the treat for sure. At the Spanish School as also at the Cadre Noir and the Portuguese School, the masters have handed down their knowledge on these subjects through generations and the results of this Haute Ecole training is astounding to watch. It is lovely to see Allen Pogue working in the same vein here, developing the horse's natural talents and abilities in his quiet and effective manner. Recommended.

Imagine A Horse with Allen Pogue: Pedestal Training. Learn how to have a circus horse in your own backyard from horse master Allen Pogue.

Virtually all species of domestic animals except the horse are taught to perform from a place or mark. As the horse is prone to act on his strong flight instinct, the horse will benefit from learning how to work from a home base. So training the horse to a pedestal will provide an important base for all future trick training work. Here Allen guides you through training your horse to not just stand obediently and happily on the pedestal, but also how to work to yield the hindquarters, yield the forehand, ground tie, park out, salute, rear. This is equine agility training. Also Allen explains here how to use the pedestal to create and execute a Behavior Chain which will add to the theatrical effect of any presentation. He also explains the use of various different types of pedestals.

Trick Training Your Horse; Shaping Behaviors Volume 1 Imagine A Horse with Allen Pogue.

Developing the horse into a truly thinking horse will encourage him to trust and work with you through the use of these simple trick training basics. These exercises, the smile, the salute and rolling a big ball each bring the horse to a new level of understanding. The work with the big ball teaches him that he can affect and control the outcome of his actions. The work with the smile will teach both trainer and horse that utilizing incremental steps you can shape your horse and his behavior, especially where you pay attention to the tiniest effort. Why not have a smart pantomime horse in your own back yard. The salute is a preliminary exercise to build a foundation for the Circus March and Spanish Walk.

TheHorseStudio.com review: Here Allen Pogue takes the viewer through a set of specific and easy to work exercises that increase confidence in the horse and also in the rider/trainer. The smile exercise is fun and it's easy to see why this increased level of interaction creates a new level of communication. When you really pay attention to your horse it's amazing what he can teach you. Using his calm approach and demeanor Allen has the horses working happily in seconds and you can almost see their minds working and thinking as they figure it out. The rolling a ball exercise engages the horse and seems to teach him to pay attention to his environment, and to you and your requests. The horses seemed to find it boring after a while, but the quiet insistence that they continue with the effort also taught them that there is more to be learned through a determined effort. There is a lot of love evident between Allen and his horses and the two way bond with some young horses here too is admirable. Allen's dry wit and gentle approach are entertaining, and you'll soon be out in the barn practicing with your horse and having fun.

Shaping Behaviors Imagine A Horse Allen Pogue Volume II. Master trick training help that will engage your horse and improve his focus and attention span.

TheHorseStudio.com copyrighted review - Next time your hat flies off on the trail or you drop your whip guess it would be kind of nice to have your horse pick it up and return it to you. While the lessons here from Allen Pogue will certainly have your horse accomplishing these fun tasks of retrieval, the added benefits are certainly your horse's awareness of you his rider and an his increased attention span and focus. The lessons are as always everything Allen, completed with patience, humor and respect for the horse. Beginning with treats being hidden in a sock and picked up from the platform through picking up baseball hats and balls to pretty much anything you can add a leather handle to - it's truly fun and it does challenge the imagination of the horse. This is volume II in the series of shaping behaviors, and a good adjunct to the series. Also includes working more than one horse in liberty training and having the horse guide the Big Ball. As always Gator is a star!

Imagine A Horse with Allen Pogue. The Rear. Teach your horse one of the most impressive circus tricks with a modern, safe and original approach.

Developing the rear in a finished performance horse should certainly be included in any trick training series. Naturally the most important factor in this training exercise as with any other is the safety of both handler and horse and creating a method that is both safe and that works is demonstrated here by Allen Pogue using his own original approach. He has already built the horse's reliability through the pedestal training and shaping behavior activities, so this is a true continuation of that training which makes it surprisingly simple to teach the horse to rear on cue and on mark.

TheHorseStudio.com copyrighted review: While we know that treats are used for training many species of animals, their use has to be carefully and sensibly implemented to ensure there will be no 'mugging' or bad behavior and that the animal has the necessary 'bridge' commands to fully understand and trust the trainer. There is a wealth of great info and tips here from the very experienced Allen Pogue and partner Sue De Laurentis. Their highly successful and unique trick training program is well documented in their full range of DVDs available right here at www.TheHorseStudio.com. While the VIPs like Sheryl Crow have Allen and Sue work with them on major concerts bringing horses front and center stage, we can all gain great help here training our own horses and engaging them in learning. Not just tricks for the sake of entertainment but also many safety aspects are directly affected by knowing your horse understands your requests. The use of treats is certainly very useful and the way they are used here answers all your questions. For example, what do you do if once you've given a treat your horse won't leave you alone or enters your space? The answer is not a tap on the nose. Allen clearly explains the way to right way to handle this and it is so effective. I tried it on one of my more curious horses who naturally is totally bright and will take the 'mile' advantage if given an inch. It really works. The introduction features the highly respected Bobbi Colorado and her dog Shamus, who we have all seen on TV. Bobbie tells you what she looks for in an animal she wants to train, and kudos to her as the dogs she selects often come from the pound. Bobbi has trained just about every animal possible. Talking of which many people are now teaching their rescue horses tricks to help place them in homes. It is effective for more than entertainment as it increases trust between horse and human and understanding on both sides too. Overall 60 minutes of very useful advice that addresses a big gap in the market on this training help. Allen is as usual very easy to listen too and amuses at every turn engaging not just his horse but you the viewer too!! I plan to use the methods taught here under saddle as well as on the ground as Allen shows you, with my dressage youngsters. Brilliant.
