Comprehensive info here because Mr. Hart is also an agricultural scholar. Then onto grooming, rugs and blankets, showing, major veterinary matters and how to successfully breed and rear draft horses. In the second part of the book there is advice on carriages, vehicle types and acquisitions, how to restore paintwork and some neat tips here. A detailed chapter on harness, how to fit it and choose it and care for it, plus turnout questions for driving answered. This includes teams up to four. A section then on preparing the horse for the show ring, fitness, work and equipment and presentation. Plus section four on showing the horse/s, judges and stewards roles and how to become a judge to showing in hand and agricultural classes, obstacles, ploughing (plowing), and how to report on a show.

This 2007 from author Donna Campbell Smith brings the history, the buying, the care and management and the showing of any draft horse - all great info - to the reader. An education for sure - the noble breeds from our history that built the world are well photographed as well as documented here. If you have never owned a draft horse but would like to do so there is very good help here as to how to go about that - and any type of showing, whether riding or pulling are all covered. A section on the special care and management of the draft breeds, together with a super historical tour of the origins and work of the draft throughout the centuries. Aptly told and well written, Donna brings a shear wealth of experience with horses as well as a well regarded freelance writer for such magazines as The Chronicle Of The Horse, Stable Management mag and more. Also included here a nice glossary of terms and lists of breed associations and web resources for various organizations related to draft horses.
