Well plug in your turn of the century sense of humor and prepare yourself for a great ride through the history of classical dressage. The text matches Gustav Steinbrecht for it's style and humor and is full of information.

The introduction from William Steinkraus is frank and as one of our own legends he brings a nice anecdote to a work that has been out of print for many years. This work of the ecuyer Fillis from St Petersburg Cavalry School has so much valid info that any student of classical dressage can't help but be impressed. A real must read." En Avante" .

3. Philippe Karl School of Cadre Noir. Part 1. Dressage basics. Lunge and In Hand Work. DVD

Saumur, France. Distinguished trainer and rider who shares a sincere understanding of the horse and it's classical dressage training. This is Part 1 of a 4 part series, designed to stand alone or you can find the rest of the set in our listings. Philippe Karl of the Cadre Noir brings here his philosophy of ease, this title The School Of Dance (Karl is from the French school in Saumur). This DVD covers the basics including lunge work, in hand basics, the application of aids, starting work under the rider and some lateral basic work. All of the Philippe Karl DVD's are jam packed with info and very good value for money.

This area of Provence, France, is the opening beautiful cinematography here, and riding a dream of a horse in a romantic land is just the beginning. Perhaps it's Philippe's super French accent or the aplomb with which he directs his horse - whatever it is - it's quite mesmerizing. There is lots of serious information here tho too - no hold barred - all knowledge generously shared and very explicit help.

The entire Horse Studio team really enjoyed this whole series and many of us have taken to heart many of the lesson Philippe has share here. A really good DVD that won't disappoint.
