TheHorseStudio.com review: Well now I know how to find a good hunting dog. Though suppose if anyone should know it would be Tom Quinn, icon trainer of hunting dogs and noted dog breeder too. Tom Quinn is also a top rated field-trials judge - so he knows of what he speaks. It just so happens I have a Golden Retriever and having read this book I realize how short I have been on the training.

A very complete and honest account here, and it sounds very simple to follow. I tried a few things out for myself and was amazed. My curly Golden soon picked up the message. The work on stretching the memory was new to me and certainly helped out. Sometimes my dog can hunt with a hardmouth, too much enthusiasm, but with tips from Mr. Quinn we've got a handle on that. If you really want a good retriever as well as the naturally fine companions they are - then this is the book for you. Doesn't hurt that Tom Quinn is also an accomplished artist. His creativity comes through in the writing and it's entertaining reading. Likes to say what he thinks. Lovely!

For your further info: Includes working and buying/breeding/training Chesapeakes, Labs and Goldens. Covers all the field trial etiquette stuff and oodles of training for the advanced competitor. So first you've got to qualify, so that is well written too. Before that you need to derby train so we've got phase one and two on that. Then we have to transport, steady for the first fetch and train all the basics and we need some gear for that - so Mr. Quinn covers all that. Blinds, line running, hand signals, force training, puppy training from A- Z. Comprehensive for sure.
