2. The Essential Guide to Professional Horse Care. Author Alison Pocklington UK Horse and Hound Groom Of The Year 2000. Published by UK House J ALLEN

For anyone unfamiliar with the trials and tribulations of showing and competing horses who hasn't the most experience on the subject and would like to avoid the pitfalls - this is a great book. Alison was pro groom for Christopher Bartle for many years and has groomed both top level eventers and dressage horses - her down to earth/matter of fact text is neatly packaged here with lists for your road trip, safety information on loading including some good ideas regarding using pillows and duvets for the bad traveler, clipping tips and help, tack and equipment and how to correctly fit each strap! Plus feeding during competition, watering, nutrition, care after the horse returns home - what to do for the horse during the competition - how hard is he blowing? what is his recovery rate? Alison gives you a full to do list for each stage of each part of the competition - which is very useful for the event groom in particular who has many time schedules and different equipment and requirements to handle. Also advice on how to travel a horse tacked up, how to sew a mane, how to pull a tail and much more... A very good resource and some good photos throughout - makes a great gift for the rider new to the show world who wants to make a great impression or for the aspiring groom that wants to learn the basics of all aspects.

Alison teaches and trains at The Yorkshire Riding Centre - training riders for competition and examinations - and rides point to point and events. The well respected Horse and Hound named her groom of the year in theUK - a truly challenging title to earn!

Hardback.

3. Learn traditional leg bandaging methods for your horse. Techniques include the polo bandage, standing bandage, spider bandage, support bandage, pressure bandage. Also included is advice on how to properly apply a poultice and sweat and a special section on safety practices to utilize when working around horses. For the horse you don't wish to bandage there is also advice on open leg work including cold water and topical treatments.

TheHorseStudio.com review: This is a neatly produced informative DVD that provides answers to horse owners questions concerning the correct practices for leg wrapping and bandaging techniques. Using incredibly well mannered and patient horses, Diane takes you through each type of bandage application with clarity in a step by step method in calm and easy to listen to manner. I have been around horses for over forty years and have spent my share of time on bended knee wrapping horses legs, but I learned some new techniques here. A well rounded production that will be invaluable to vet students and horse owners/grooms everywhere. As Diane says, you need to practice to get it right. But importantly knowing 'the right way to do it' will improve the positive benefits of leg wrapping while minimizing damage that can be caused by a lack of knowledge. We look forward to her next DVD in this series! Advice here that every true horseman should know for the sake of his horse!

Duration 1 hr. 8 minutes. NTSC North America/Canada format.

4. Clipping Techniques Including All the Major Clipping Styles and Summer Show Clipping Sessions.

Headed for a show? Even summer coats need attention to maintain that show quality appearance.

Styles highlighted include Hunter Clip, Blanket Clip, and High, Medium and Low Trace Clips. Also included is advice on how to properly clean and lubricate the clippers.

TheHorseStudio.com review. This is professional advice that quickly advises you with lots of good tips and insights along the way on the best way to achieve a professional looking result. The art of a good clip not only enhances the health of the horse by providing a quicker drying time in the winter, but sets the stage in summer sessions for the perfect appearance at the showground. Whether you are out foxhunting or schooling your dressage horse all winter inside or headed to hunter jumper competition, your horse will benefit from the right clip for him. This DVD is a very useful tool and a great one for your library so you can refer to the advice again or pass on to the next groom! Where I grew up in England we always clipped horses for their health. Don't forget the additional blankets though. If you want a pictorial guide check out the book we have right here at TheHorseStudio.com Clipping - it's very easy to put on the bench and refer to as you are in action. Very handy.

NTSC Format. North America/Canada. 60 minutes duration.

thehorsestudio.com review; Ok - well there's a few here that I didn't know here too! Very easy to follow and so much easier to learn by watching it done on DVD.
