International artist Mary Brazier brings you this beautiful custom card print of her oil painting "The Snowbird." The berries on the shelf herald Xmas is close by and the Snow Bird would love to feast upon them before migration south. The antiquity of the ship, named no doubt for its migration up and down the eastern seaboard in its time, belies the more modern use of the snowbird title given to the migration not of birds, but of people from the colder climes of the North East USA and Canada to the warmth of the South. Folks in the southern latitudes of America such as Louisiana have long regarded the snowbird as fondly as the Brits regard the robin.

For Mary the 12th Century English Christmas Carol, 'I Saw Three Ships," that sailed in to 'Bethlehem on Christmas Morn", was a carol she remembers fondly. " As a child it was always an easy one to remember due to its easy chorus, but the notion that Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus were sailing in to safe harbor on Christmas morning as described in the song was one I loved. As a metaphor or as a good omen and good luck. Perhaps that's folklore because we all know Bethlehem is landlocked. Why three ships? It was also common for writers to exclaim, " The Queen arrived in six carriages!" when naturally she could only occupy one. So the ships 2 and 3 were probably mentioned under similar license.In the Victorian era the carol was simplified and became extremely popular as it was easy for those that hadn't been taught to read to remember the lines."

Artist Bio: Although Mary was accepted as a student in Fine Arts at the revered Slade Art College in London, she chose instead to work in Europe under the guidance and tutorage of many noted masters including Jose Cabanes of the Barcelona School Of Art. The fascination for nature, her spirit of adventure and challenge set the scene of her career. In addition to capturing changing season, settings and landscapes of country-sides worldwide, included noted works of Africa, Portugal and America, Mary Brazier has also captured the industrial scene and completed many large scale commission pieces for major Corporations using oil medium. These pieces are renowned for their reference to the industrial impact on the environment. In addition to numerous exhibits on many Continents throughout her career Mary found time to give back to the art community by teaching 12-16 year olds, and was thrilled to be able to encourage and share her knowledge with young talent. Mary is an active member of art communities in several countries. Her awards in the U.S.A. include the Elizabeth Pennell Memorial Award from the Kent Art Society, in Kent, Connecticut.
