This beautifully illustrated anthology contains stories of many donkeys, some of which were taken into care by The Donkey Sanctuary at its various locations throughout Europe, others housed and handled by Donkey Sanctuary Teams in other countries around the world.
The book is organized by the letters of the alphabet. For each letter there are two parts: The first tells the stories of donkeys whose name begins with that letter, and the second provides donkey facts, and the people and places important to the development and care of the donkey the world over. You'll learn about Naughty Face, the donkey who helped start the Donkey Sanctuary, as well as his companion Angelina.
You'll read about the children who have benefited from the work of The Elisabeth Svendsen Trust for Children & Donkeys, and all kinds of little known facts and donkey trivia. (Did you know that a "zeedonk" is the offspring of a male zebra and female donkey?) This delightful book will appeal to everyone who loves donkeys.

I grew up riding and my first 'owned' mount was a donkey, who lived to be 35 years old in great health most of the time. Back then, books and help for donkey owners in general was fairly limited. The Donkey Sanctuary folks have done an amazing job with this book. Not only have they done the real hard work out there in the field worldwide, with donkey rescues that are much needed, but they have also educated us all along the way. This book will be enjoyed by any donkey lover. The stories are well written, educational and entertaining. There are many photos and anecdotes too, and you will enjoy a trip around the world. Dr. Elizabeth Svendsen was a shining light in her work and caring, and she will be sorely missed, So sad she didn't get a chance to enjoy this book in print , but I have a feeling she will be smiling happily wherever she is, to see her beloved donkeys illuminated in this book, the stories of how they helped children overcome major difficulties and obstacles of health issues both physical and mental. A fitting tribute to a wonderful life, and a thoroughly enjoyable read.
